The relationship between intellectual roles, ideology and philosophy

The workshop brought together doctoral students and recent graduates from the Doctoral School of Philosophy at Babeș-Bolyai University of Cluj-Napoca, particularly those researching and writing in Hungarian. This event marked the initial step of a long-term research project on Hungarian philosophy in 20th-century Romania, with a focus on the socialist era. Participants discussed structuring this broader project and held an initial collective research meeting, reading and examining perspectives of Hungarian intellectuals in Romania on the role of the intelligentsia. The discussion explored how thinkers’ views on intellectual roles shifted with political and cultural leanings, regime changes, wartime events, and the persecution of Hungarians in Romania.
