OPEN CALL: Essay Competition
POSTFASCISM: Historical and Contemporary Representations of the Reset
The hypha.etc Association is launching a public essay competition on the theme of current manifestations and representations of the far right.
Starting from the concept of POSTFASCISM proposed by G.M. Tamás, as well as from other recent or classical concepts useful for understanding the current reactionary phenomenon, the texts may address, among other aspects, the configuration and evolution of today’s reactionary movements, the relationship between these movements and forms of historical fascism, the circulation of extremist ideas in the digital environment, the relationship between contemporary capitalism, polycrisis, and the rise of new forms of extremism, the role of literature, film, music, and media culture in legitimizing or contesting these phenomena, and, last but not least, the concepts and theoretical resources that allow us to understand them.
The texts, ranging between 3,500 and 5,000 words, may be written either in a more academic register or in the form of free essays. The submission deadline is 20 September. The texts should be sent in PDF format to postfascism@gmail.com, with the subject line:
Postfascism Text Competition.
Following the jury’s evaluation, the following prizes will be awarded: one First Prize, worth 3,000 lei; two Second Prizes, worth 1,500 lei each; and three Third Prizes, worth 1,000 lei each. The first three ranked texts, the First Prize and the two Second Prizes, will be published in a collective volume forthcoming from Tact Publishing House. The three texts awarded Third Prize will be published in Vatra magazine.
Note: the call is directed towards BA, MA and PhD students.
The essay competition is part of the project “Postfascism: Historical and Contemporary Representations of the Reset,” coordinated by the hypha.etc Association and financed by the Administration of the National Cultural Fund.
